Review: Victory Prima Pils (Bottle)
I want to review more lagers this summer, and I thought I’d start with one of the most popular ones out there. Though some craft beer fans can be a bit snobby when it comes to Pilsners (I’d be surprised to find any pils out there with a ratebeer score over 80), the style can be as flavorful as other praised summer alternatives like Saisons. They also tend to be much much cheaper! Sounds good enough to me. Prima Pils is available in six packs for maybe ten bucks, and it’s a really good gateway craft beer for lager fans. Nice toasty/caramelized bread notes, with some lemon zest, grass, and a little classic Pilsner mineral freshness. Personally I would like a bit more carbonation crisp zest, but this is a good beer.

Devils Backbone 8 Point IPA is a cornucopia of hop varieties. Its flavor imparts a floral-citrus aroma with a crisp bitterness and medium-body. Concocted from Pilsen with a dash of Caramel malts, this burnished-golden brew has a sweet malt ‘backbone’ for balance.

Black IPAs are a contradiction in name — they’re black, but they’re India pale ales. New York’s Southern Tier knows this, which is why it named its imperial Black IPA Iniquity, meaning the opposite of good. But the beer is the opposite of the opposite of good: We love its big citrus-hop flavors, which cut straight through the roasted-malt heft.

This Double IPA pairs fantastically with spicy Thai food, Mexican cuisine, or a big ol’ bowl of chili.

Without further ado, meet Bud Light Platinum: the newest addition the Budweiser family. The flavor has everything in common with regular Bud Light except with a slighter sweeter taste. More corn was used in this brew to enhance the flavor, increase the alcohol, and maintain the light look and texture.
